Here is were the 32 bit hits its first hard limitation--often times the analysis view won't even load and you receive a dialogue stating that you should update to the 64 bit version to view large files. This made testing very difficult because I had to repeatedly restart the program or just keep trying to open the TIF until it worked when i wanted to try different parameters. This lag increases when you try to decrease the granularity of the image or increase the color depth, I had to force quit several times because the program became completely unresponsive.

This doesn't inhibit all use for microscopy though, because you have many of the same utilities that you would find in a non-specialized viewer and the OsiriX website actually has screenshots of confocal microscopy data. However, it does make the workflow a bit complicated if you aren't familiar with the medical jargon. More significant is the apparent lack of multichannel image recognition integrated into the Color Lookup system.

Got to see the images and that what I wanted it for! I just tried to install this, which required going to a website to receive a download link which could only be obtained by filling out a form containing your email, phone number, city etc. A tad annoying, but I just entered bogus data except for my email address so I could receive the link. Then after downloading the installer asked for my password instead of the usual drag the application into the Applications Folder. So I quit and rummaged around a little in the installer package.

I saw stuff pertaining to SSL communications and just got a bad feeling so I aborted the whole thing. As always, nothing is free…. Followed the provided link to the OsiriX web site.
